Insulation removal in Arizona: when old insulation needs to come out
Old insulation that is settled, dirty, water-damaged or contaminated by rodents drags down comfort and air quality. Here is when it should come out, how removal works, what it costs and how it fits with a new install.
When should old attic insulation be removed?
Remove it when it is water-damaged, moldy, contaminated by rodents, crushed flat, or so old and settled it no longer performs.
Most of the time we can blow new fiberglass right over existing insulation. Removal is the right call when what is up there is hurting your air or would keep new insulation from working properly. We tell you honestly which situation you are in and show you photos.
Signs your insulation should come out
How insulation removal works
We vacuum the old material out through a high-powered hose into sealed bags, then haul it away.
We protect the living space and the path to the attic, contain the dust, and clear the attic down to the drywall. Sanitizing and deodorizing are available when there has been rodent activity.
How much does insulation removal cost?
Removal runs about $2,000 to $2,600 per 1,000 square feet, depending on the material, the depth and how difficult the attic is to work in.
We give you an itemized quote after inspecting the attic.
Removal plus a new install
Most homes go straight from removal to a fresh blown-in fiberglass install, often the same day.
A clean attic is the best possible base for new insulation. SRP customers whose attics are under R-38 can still qualify for the up-to-$600 instant rebate on the new insulation when it is brought up to R-38.
Is insulation removal messy?
Homeowners are usually surprised how clean it is. The material goes straight from the attic into sealed bags, and we keep the living space protected the whole time.
